🎼🎶🎵It’s the most wonderful time of the year🎵🎶 when I get to show off all the stats I keep at my fingertips! This year, I’m splitting up this post into 6 different posts, because the size would be insane if it were only one. Here is the second part.

All results are from January 1, 2019 through December 24, 2019 which is when the first of these posts come out. I really hope you like numbers as much as I do.

Genre breakdowns are probably the hardest thing to do, because of the amount of overlap. They’re even harder to show, because you can’t use a pie chart because that only goes to 100%. There are some tables at the bottom if that is easier.

Key:
Stories = standalones and series
Books = individual novels and novellas that are the primary part of the story (this is to include series that are nothing but novellas)

Age Group:

Let me start with the age groupings for the year, since that is the easiest to talk about since I’m really not much of a YA reader.. There is no overlap between the age groups.

Out of 137 Stories:
94% (128) were Adult
1% (2) were New Adult
4% (6) were Young Adult
0% (1) was Middle Grade

Out of 340 Books:
95% (324) were Adult
1% (2) were New Adult
4% (13) were Young Adult
0% (1) were Middle Grade

Out of 99 Rereads:
97% (96) were Adult
3% (3) were Young Adult

Out of 241 Regular Books:
96% (231) were Adult
0% (1) were New Adult
3% (9) were Young Adult
0% (1) were Middle Grade

Out of 99 Audiobooks:
94% (93) were Adult
1% (1) were New Adult
5% (5) were Young Adult

Genres:

There are Primary genres (and subgenres) Fantasy (Alt History, Dark Fantasy, Epic Fantasy, Historical Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Fantasy Romance), Science Fiction (Military Sci-fi, Space Opera, Sci-Fi Romance), Horror, Contemporary (Fiction, Romance), and Romance (Contemporary, Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Paranormal Romance), and Non-Fiction. This is where the overlap exists.

Notes:
1. It is no surprise that Urban Fantasy is so much of my rereads, as I read almost exclusively UF before the past two or three years. Not much to pool from before to reread.
2. I’m surprised that so much of this year was Urban Fantasy, as I really didn’t think I had read that much. however, it does look like the majority was spread out amongst other genres and subgenres

Science Fiction:

Notes:
1. A lot of things are dumped into unspecified on this section. I’m going to have to add a lot more subgenres next year.
2. Space Opera having 100% of the rereads is no surprise, because it is the only one I had really read before this year in any numbers at all.

Horror:

Stories: 3/137 (2%)
Books: 3/340 (1%)
Audiobooks: 1/99 (1%)
Regular Books: 2/241 (1%)
Rereads: 0 rereads
Average Rating: 3.9 stars
Subgenres: 0

Notes:
1. I don’t really have enough reason to split this into specific subgenres, but they involve body horror, a contemporary fiction I marked as horror because wow, and a urban fantasy action horror.

Contemporary:

Stories: 32/137 (23%)
Books: 38/340 (11%)
Audiobooks: 22/99 (22%)
Regular Books: 38/241 (11%)
Rereads: 0 rereads
Average Rating: 3.7 stars
Subgenres: 2

Notes:
1. Contemporary Fiction only accounted for 4 of the books, each standalone, all of which were audiobooks. Contemporary Romance accounts for everything else.
2. Only one of these Contemporary Fictions were a Thriller
3. As I haven’t really read any Contemporary Romance or Fiction prior to now, 0 rereads makes sense.

Romance:

Notes:
1. Contemporary Romance is almost completely new to me, and the majority were in audiobook.
2. In fact, the majority of of the romance was me chasing down what I call ” baby romance”. I’m not ashamed.
3. This is my least well reviewed section.
4. Contemporary Romance is my lowest rated subgenre out of them all. Because I make bad choices when chasing ill-advised highs.
5. The one reread in Fantasy Romance was for a book I read earlier in the year for the first time.

Non-Fiction:

Book: 2, both in audio
Average Rating: 4 stars

This Thing (Genre Overlap?):

I created this thing. I don’t know if it is working the way I want it to. I don’t know if it is readable. I..just don’t know.

What it is supposed to do is show the amount of overlap between the genres.

The way I intended it to be read is something like 61% of adult is fantasy, but 96% of fantasy is adult. And 4% of romance is sci-fi, but 3% of sci-fi is romance. If this makes any sense at all.
